Day 9 - Your secret weapon in stressful situations

Dec 24, 2021

Spending time with family can be wonderful, but it can also be stressful!

Sometimes it can bring up old patterns, memories and ways of doing things that no longer serve you, or topics of conversations you disagree on.

But instead of letting it annoy you or get you stressed, remind yourself that you have the choice of how you want to react to any situation.

And you have a secret weapon inside of you that can bring ease & peace to your mind when you need it the most.

And that is your breath.

Our breath is our most efficient way of calming our central nervous system. It's completely free and it's always with you when you need it.

All you need to do is close your eyes, exhale deeply through your mouth then take a long deep breath in through your nose followed by another deep exhalation through your mouth. The exhalation sends the signal to your brain that you are safe & secure so repeat the exercise until you feel at peace again in your body.

I know it may seem like a weird thing to do in public but you can go into the bathroom so you can practice it in private. Or better still, go outside!

For best results, practice it a few times before you go to any gathering where you might feel triggered.

If you feel like your blood is about to boil, remind yourself that you have a choice and just breathe!

P.s: This is the type of breathing I teach in my workouts and the reason why people always feel so chill after practicing with me :) Reducing stress and reconnecting you to your body is key to reduce bloating and develop a more mindful relationship with food & fitness. By signing up to Beat The Bloat you'll get a new workout in your inbox every morning for 21 days starting on January 3rd. I'm here to support you x
